Ai-Play Mirror: Hong Kong Interactive Fitness Gaming

August 06, 2025

During COVID, we specialized in manufacturing fitness mirrors for unicorn brands. Then the market shifted, and many of those brands exited. The hardware lesson stayed with us, though: people don't stick with exercise because it's good for them. They stick with it when it's fun. The best way to make exercise engaging, we believe, is a game-first experience.

That belief became the Oola Ai-Play Mirror — an interactive smart mirror that turns movement into play, and a workout into something closer to stress relief.

Game first, fitness follows

Most fitness technology asks for discipline. The Ai-Play Mirror asks for something easier: play a round. Its games are built around AR and VR interaction, so the player moves, dodges, reaches and reacts — and the exercise happens as a side effect of trying to win. In an office breakout area, a school hall, or a public space, that difference matters. A treadmill waits for motivation. A game creates it.

The mirror format helps, too. Players watch themselves and the game in the same surface, so movement stays natural and the feedback is instant. No headset to hand around, no controller to charge — just step up and play.

The settings tell the story. In an office, the mirror turns a break into a reset — two colleagues, one quick round, back to work lighter. In a school, it gives students a sanctioned way to burn off energy and stress between classes, standing up and moving instead of slumping over a phone. In a public space, it becomes the thing people gather around and try, one after another. None of those settings needs another lecture about wellness. They need a reason to move, and a game is a reason.

100% developed in Hong Kong

The Ai-Play Mirror is a 100% Hong Kong-developed interactive smart mirror. It was designed and developed entirely in Hong Kong, which is more than a point of pride: local development means robust cybersecurity and reliable protection of user data, under a team that answers for its own code. For schools and offices — places that hold other people's data and other people's children — that accountability is not a detail. It is the product.

Built by Hong Kong's young creators

Every game on the Ai-Play Mirror is created by our local young team. And the circle is designed to widen: upcoming design competitions will engage school students, turning the mirror into a canvas for the next generation of Hong Kong creators and helping inspire and grow the local creative industry. The students who play the games today get a path to making them tomorrow.

First showcase: a custom game for HSITP

The featured showcase video presents a custom game designed for HSITP, Buildings 8 & 9 — a boxing experience built for that space and its people. It is a good example of how Hong Kong innovation improves daily life in small, concrete ways: a few minutes of play between work, stress out, energy back. Custom content for a specific venue is exactly what a locally developed platform makes easy.

The HSITP showcase points at the larger model: because the platform and its games are developed by our own team, content can be customized for a venue, an event, or an audience. A game designed for Buildings 8 & 9 speaks to the people who work in Buildings 8 & 9. That kind of local, specific content is what turns an installation into a fixture instead of a novelty.
